With the organisation being a leading service provider via its 7000 plus staff, spread nationally and across an array of services, the significance of this role should be readily apparent.
While being the strategic HR lead, you will have full responsibility for driving change that comes with continuous improvement, alongside the operational requirements of delivering best practice capability to the staff, and by extension, the customers they serve. Naturally, your role will also lead the development of strategies around the future workforce, and the associated implementation of such.
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the newly appointed CEO, you must be a genuine contributor at that level and build strong mutually beneficial relationships with your General Management peers. This is in order to assist them with delivering their business objectives, while ensuring the “People” are at the core of those objectives.
With such a large workforce, and an organisation that is reliant on the performance of such, you will need proven leadership experience, and resilience, to ensure HR delivers to the broad needs of the organisation, through effective engagement with the business units. That proven experience will reinforce your strategic success, in delivering effective HR initiatives across the discipline, and for the broader organisation.
With a reasonable proportion of the workforce unionised, you must have a strong track record in employment relations and proven success in establishing positive relationships and negotiating positive outcomes.
Your leadership will of course be critically utilised for your own team, one that spans a variety of the HR disciplines and is spread across the business, and geographically. These challenges will test your ability to effectively motivate a group that has a high workload, assisting them with developing proactive systems and processes, while not taking their eyes off the considerable requirements of the “business as usual.”
The organisation has very clear delivery goals, with their people being at the core of those. Only through an engaged and supported workforce can those staff deliver the service their clients expect, and need, for their wellbeing.
