  • Newly created position
  • Bring strategy to life

The Commerce Commission is New Zealand’s competition, consumer, consumer credit and economic regulatory agency.  It plays a crucial role in ensuring New Zealand’s markets are competitive, consumers and businesses are well informed, and sectors with little or no competition are appropriately regulated.

The Commission is an independent Crown entity responsible for enforcing laws relating to competition, fair trading, and consumer credit contracts. It also has regulatory responsibilities in relation to electricity distribution, gas, telecommunications, fibre, fuel, dairy and airport sectors.

Due to its growth as an organisation, growing expectations and greater focus in the strategy, governance, data and analytics and engagement areas, this new role within the Commission’s senior leadership team has been created to work closely with the Board and senior leaders to ensure the Commission is fit for the future.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, this tier 2 role is an exciting and unique opportunity for a talented General Manager to work with the Commission’s Board and senior leadership team in the areas of strategy, governance, performance, operational policy, data and analytics, international relations and engagement. You and your branch will establish and grow centres of excellence, drive system and framework thinking across the organisation and ensure the Commission’s narrative, performance and stakeholder relationships are strong, clear and well maintained. You will enable the Commission to not only meet but exceed expectations as a strategic and future focused organisation.

Your positive disposition and proactive approach will ensure the Strategy, Governance and Engagement branch contribute collaboratively across the business, and externally, as the Commission implements its Fit for the Future programme of work.

To be considered for this position, your knowledge and experience will include:

  • being a senior leader, with a track record of turning ideas into tangible delivery through your ability to lead a focused and committed team
  • high calibre expertise in leading areas such as strategy, governance, engagement and communication, and data and analytics within a large or complex government organisation
  • a track record of collaboration and building strong stakeholder relationships including at Board level
  • in-depth understanding of the performance and accountabilities, machinery of government, regulatory systems and regulatory tools from enforcement to outreach.

This is a key senior role in the Commission and provides opportunity for government and business savvy executives to assist the Commission in developing and operating a Fit for the Future regulatory regime providing long-term benefits for New Zealanders.

This search process is being managed by SWR Group on the Commerce Commission’ s behalf.
